House Prices - A Snapshot of Britain

June, 04, 2008

The Halifax has just reported house prices were down 2.4% in May and the Nationwide has already reported a 2.5% drop, leaving the average house price down £5,000 in just a month. However, many of the headlines we read are based on national averages – this doesn’t necessarily reflect what is actually happening to your property price.

To help you, SaveBorrowSpend brings you a snapshot of how far house prices changed in the first quarter of this year and year on year.  We've randomly picked places across Britain (email us if you would like us to include where you live and we've added your area if requested). And remember these are just averages!

Source: Land Registry figures for the first quarter of 2008 (January-March). We will update this list as soon as the Q2 figures are released. The Land Registry survery represents seasonlly adjusted figures on price inflation for residential property in England and Wales.  Despite only being launched in 2006 it's set to become the most authoritative survey and has already become very well respected.  The only downside is the figures lag behind other house price surveys by a month.
