Motorists 'don't know what their car insurance covers'

Motorists 'don't know what their car insurance covers'With flood warnings being sounded around the country, gocompare.com has issued a further note of caution regarding car insurance.

According to the price comparison website, 28 per cent of UK drivers have only third party, fire and theft policies which do not provide cover for flood damage.

While Gocompare.com's managing director Hayley Parsons has stressed that there is nothing wrong with purchasing these policies, she suggests that it is important that the drivers who do are aware of exactly what is and isn't included in their policy cover.

"Every day we are seeing images of people driving through flood water and it is clear that people still aren't aware of the damage it can cause to their car or the danger flood water can hide," she commented.

Drivers without comprehensive car insurance should take extra care to avoid driving through deep water, she said.

Meanwhile, motorists who live in areas at risk of flooding should think about moving their cars to higher ground.
