Move-it-yourselfConsumers across the UK are increasingly taking a do-it-yourself attitude towards moving house, new figures from Lloyds TSB suggest.

In news that may interest people looking to compare popular mortgages, a study by the financial services provider indicates that more than half (52 per cent) of people plan to carry out the removal process themselves to help save cash.

Alison Burns, Lloyds TSB director of network mortgage sales, states that it is unsurprising that people are considering such an approach, given the current economic climate, but also suggests caution.

"Shopping around for good deals and opportunities to earn rewards on your spend is always a good idea but there are some areas where you should not cut corners, such as legal fees and a thorough survey," she adds.

The Halifax house price index for May indicates that house prices fell by 2.4 per cent during the month, with the average price standing at £184,111.
