Check insurance before holiday, motorists warned
03 July 2008
Motorists need to be sure to check all of their insurance policies before taking a trip abroad, an expert has asserted.
Ian Crowder, a spokesperson for car insurance provider the AA, argued that those people considering taking their car to Europe should ensure their cover extends to foreign countries.
"If you are taking your car out of the UK it's very easy to just assume that if you're covered in the UK you are going to be covered elsewhere in Europe," Mr Crowder said, adding that while this is true to a certain extent, there are also a number of conditions affecting what is and is not offered.

He said that drivers should check their insurance policy so that they would not find their holiday coming to an abrupt end as the result of an accident and the prospect of large repair bills.
According to the British Insurance Brokers' Association, UK insurance policies tend to offer cover in the European Union to meet minimum legal requirements only.
