Britons demonstrate 'returnment' over retirement
21 July 2008
More Britons are putting off retirement in favour of continuing to work for longer, in a trend that has been dubbed 'returnment' by independent think tank the Future Laboratory, it has been revealed.
New research by Zurich has found that almost a third of UK citizens are delaying their retirement plans due to financial reasons, while only a quarter of those surveyed felt they will have saved enough to fund their targeted lifestyle once they have drawn their pension.
In advice that may be of interest to people considering saving for retirement, Tony Solomon, Business Development Director at the company, said: "As life expectancy continues to rise and the amount of time people spend in their retirement increases, many people are re-evaluating how they will spend their retirement."

The survey also discovered that there was a north/south divide when it came to retirement planning, with Northerners citing financial concerns as their reason for continuing to work while Southerners felt their primary objective was to stay active later in life.
