Money-saving light bulbs

07 August 2008

Money-saving light bulbsIt is stated that a low-energy light bulb will save £60 over the course of its lifetime, according to the National Home Improvement Council (NHIC).

Andrew Leech, spokesperson for the organisation, notes that the lifespan of such bulbs can be at least ten years.

"That doesn't sound very much but when you multiply it by the number [of] light bulbs in the average household the saving is quite significant," he continues.

Mr Leech also states that the government has set a target of phasing out all inefficient light bulbs by 2011.

"Energy saving light bulbs are far from the norm but things have to change dramatically in the next three years," he adds.

Concluding, the NHIC representative identifies timers, dawn-to-dusk controls and passive infrared sensors as other potentially good energy-saving devices.
