Home insurance extensions 'a wise move'

12 August 2008

Home insurance extensions 'a wise move'It may be a prudent decision for holiday home owners who do not travel abroad very often to extend their UK home insurance policy to protect their possessions anywhere in the world, according to the AA.

Ian Crowder, public relations manager for the financial services provider, explains that while there are limits, there are two major advantages to carrying this process out.

Firstly, should a person lose an item such as a camera while on holiday, or their cases for example, then they will be able to claim on their UK home insurance policy.

Secondly, he notes: "If you are taking out travel insurance, you don't need to include the baggage element because that is covered with your home insurance."

A study carried out by Zurich Private Clients recently discovered that one in ten people did not have an insurance policy for their holiday homes and that an additional 11 per cent were unsure whether their policy provided adequate protection.
