Biba: Wedding insurance differs from travel cover
12 August 2008
There are a number of fundamental differences between wedding insurance and a travel policy, the British Insurance Brokers' Association (Biba) states.
Peter Staddon, a spokesperson for the organisation, explains that there are a number of additional factors to take into consideration when planning such and occasion abroad - not least the dress, rings and wedding refinery.
In addition, he notes that due to the fact that a wedding is usually a big celebration, there is often the chance that larger than normal amounts of alcohol may be present.
"Underwriters understand that the normal holiday has the three S's - these are sun, sea and social activity. They expect the holiday maker to have a drink, but there needs to be the line between responsibility and recklessness," Mr Staddon continues.
Recent Sainsbury's Travel Insurance research revealed that 18 per cent of the adult population booked a last-minute deal in order to save money, however, 19 per cent did not purchase travel insurance.
