People could save money by being green

22 August 2008

People could save money by being greenPeople struggling to stay financially afloat in the UK could save money by going green, according to an expert.

A Friends of the Earth (FOE) spokesman said: "people need not feel helpless as fuel and food costs rise around them".

He went on to recommend a number of tips for householders to be green and potentially save money, such as replacing the boiler, going on buses and trains instead of using the car and putting in good insulation in their home.

Figures from the National Insulation Association claim that more than 40 per cent of the heat that is lost in the average UK home is through the loft space and walls.

The organisation also says that over 50 per cent of homes in Britain don't have good enough levels of insulation.

Baseline emissions of six different greenhouse gases in the UK must be reduced between this year and 2012 under the Kyoto Protocol and the Climate Change bill means Britain must reduce CO2 emissions by at least 26 per cent by 2020.

The long-term the aim of the bill is to cut the emissions by 60 per cent by 2050.
