Kids are out of pocket

The average pocket money given to children in the UK is £6.13 a week, down from £8.01 last year, according to the Halifax pocket money survey.
Children aged between eight and 11 received an average of £4.34 a week, with older children between 12 and 15 receiving £6.13.
One in four children apparently receive an increase in money once a year with 41 per cent saying they get a rise on their birthday and one in ten reporting a rise during summer holidays.

The survey found that 29 per cent of children surveyed would save up their pocket money to buy something they wanted with 43 per cent saying they would ask for an expensive item as a birthday or Christmas present.
More than a quarter of children (28%) surveyed said they do not save any of their pocket money, with 30 per cent saving between one and five pounds a week.
A recent Telegraph newspaper report claims that French children receive the smallest amount of pocket money in Europe, at an average of 17.7 euros (£14) a month, according to figure from the Child Support Agency.
Portuguese parents are apparently the most generous, giving their children an average of 59 euros (£47) a month.
