A helping hand for homeowners to go green
29 August 2008
Newly introduced Energy Performance Certificates will enable people looking for a home to pick one that is energy efficient and will allow landlords to market some properties as green, an expert has claimed.
Jon McGowan, an energy doctor from the Energy Savings Trust, said that the trust's research showed people buying and selling houses were looking at Energy Performance Certificates to see how expensive it is to run a home.
People are "becoming more interested in saving on their bills," he said.

Chief executive of the National Association of Estate Agents Peter Bolton King said that landlords could use the certificates to make their properties more rentable or saleable.
Energy Performance Certificates are given by the Energy Savings Trust and give homes an energy performance rating of A to G. From October 1st this year all homes will need to have one.
In related news, the UK government has approved a new power station on Teesside, the Guardian reports. The plant will supply local industry with steam that is produced during the generation of electricity, which will make it more energy efficient than a traditional gas or coal powered plant, the newspaper claims.
