Getting married? Consider wedding insurance

05 September 2008

Getting married? Consider wedding insurancePeople planning to get married should discuss the risks involved and consider getting wedding insurance, an expert claims.

Couples need to be aware of what they might need covering for, Peter Staddon, a spokesman for the British Insurance Brokers' Association says.

Wedding insurance is especially important as the costs of getting married continue to rise, with the average cost of a UK wedding now reaching £11,000.

Those who do not want to take an expensive chance should contact an insurance broker for advice, says Mr Staddon.

"However it does not provide cover for the non-appearance of the bride or groom, unless there has been an intervening cause, like an illness or injury," he said.

He added that the individuals getting married should work out the risks they face and decide how best to cover these.

Getting married abroad is around six times cheaper than doing it in the UK.

Research conducted by First Choice found that over half of respondents would consider a marriage abroad.
