Motorists are warned that any modifications they make to their vehicles can affect their insurance policies.
According to Tesco Car Insurance, drivers need to inform insurers of any changes they choose to make to cars, however small, as claims could be made void if alterations are not declared.
Modifications such as alloys and custom paint jobs are becoming more popular with British motorists as a result of TV shows such as Tim Westwood's Pimp My Ride UK and a growing number of specialist car magazines and websites.

A recent poll conducted by Tesco Car Insurance found that 15 per cent of UK drivers had carried out some form of alteration to their cars, with 22 per cent of motorists in Norwich revealed to have modified their vehicles.
Head of Tesco Car Insurance Allan Burns said: "What we are encouraging people to do is to let their insurance provider know what modifications have been made so that they have the right vehicle cover."
Andrew Howard, AA Head of Road Safety, has claimed that current penalties in place for drivers of uninsured vehicles, such as car confiscation and crushing, fail to act as an effective deterrent.
