SSE energy customers could get relief from high prices

14 November 2008

SSE energy customers could get relief from high pricesThe 8.9 million Scottish and Southern Energy (SSE) customers throughout the UK could see their gas and electric bills falling next year.

The provider has announced that if the cost of wholesale electricity and gas continues to decrease then it is "optimistic" that it will be able to reduce prices in the first part of 2009.

The firm upped its prices by more than 19 per cent for electricity and nearly 30 per cent for gas customers over this summer, citing "significant losses in energy supply" as the reason for doing so.

A customer satisfaction report from uSwitch published last month put SSE as the best energy company for the fifth time in a row, saying it was a "customer service benchmark".

However, Ann Robinson, from uSwitch, told the BBC: "Consumers need to be aware that the promise of a future price cut will not limit the impact of energy prices this winter, so they still need to take action now to protect themselves."
