Ethical investors rewarded

29 August 2007

Ethical investors rewardedBelieve it or not it is possible to invest with a conscience and reap the rewards.

That's the message from Life & Pensions Moneyfacts, whose research shows that the average ethical fund has generated growth of more than 18% in the past year, compared with less than 14% for the non-ethical fund.

So in the long term if you play the stock market with a moral conscience you could make 6% more than more mainstream investors in a decade.

Richard Eagling, from Life & Pensions Moneyfacts, said: "The strong investment returns enjoyed by ethical funds in recent years have helped to shatter the misguided belief that ethical investments will always underperform traditional investment funds and that sustainable business practices restrict company growth.

"Instead, ethical funds have outperformed both their non-ethical rivals and the FTSE 100 over the last three years. These results provide compelling evidence that those companies who adopt sustainable practices should be tomorrow's winners."
