12 December 2007

Friends Provident offers new green bondsFriends Provident has announced the launch of new ethical investment options.

The new funds are managed by Schroders and F&C under the FRIENDS Wealth Solutions Bond brand.

Consumers who want environmentally-sensitive investment bonds can choose between the F & C Global Climate Opportunities Fund, which focuses on alternative energy, energy efficiency, sustainable mobility, waste, advanced materials, forestry and agriculture, water, acclimatisation, and supporting services - and the Schroder Global Climate Change Fund, which targets energy efficiency, sustainable transport, clean energy, environmental resources and low carbon fossil fuels.

Julia Dreblow, socially responsible investment marketing manager at Friends Provident, said: "Climate change has now become something that many leading organisations as well as individuals are seriously getting to grips with.

"We believe the way companies respond to this challenge will impact investment returns for many years to come."

SaveBorrowSpend commented: "With so many companies jumping on the environmental bandwagon offering an array of eco-friendly financial products, it may seem a simple way for people to ease their conscience.

"However, consumers may achieve more by opting for regular cheaper products and simply giving to green causes directly."

The funds in the pioneering F & C Stewardship ethical range are among the most strictly screened on the market.
