Cool dad syndrome could cost thousands

Many dads feel under pressure from their kids to be cool, new research suggests.

A study by financial services provider Friends Provident indicates that more than a third (34 per cent) of fathers have purchased fashionable clothes and new gadgets as a result of direct pressure from their children.

David Beckham was identified as the most admired celebrity dad.

Peter Timberlake, head of public relations at the firm, states that many dads are thinking about the here-and-now rather than planning for the future as they strive to appear cool.

"As men continue to have children later in life, they need to ensure that they have the finances in place in order to stay cool for longer and to maintain the standard of living for them and their children regardless of what the future holds," he adds.

Meanwhile, figures from Halifax Home Insurance recently suggested that men spend an average of £119 on unused kitchen appliances, in comparison to women who spend around £88.
