What is RSS

RSS (Really Simple Syndication) allows you to get the news you want from several different sources delivered to one place as soon as it is published. This means you don't have to visit your favourite news websites for daily updates as the news you want will automatically appear at a destination of your choice. Simply look out for the orange RSS or XML icon, which will be displayed on RSS compatible sites.

How to get RSS

You will need an RSS newsreader of which there are two different types:

  1. RSS readers which operate in a web browser. The advantage of these is that you can log into them from any computer. Companies offering these include: Yahoo!, AOL and Google.
  2. RSS reader software. This is specific software you can download onto your comuter.

Once you have a RSS newsreader it is simply a case of choosing which news feeds you would like to appear in it.
